NEW GLASGOW – Fundraising for New Glasgow Academy has been taking off lately. “It’s going well,” said David Whittemore, who is helping spearhead the fundraising campaign with his wife for the new school.
Whittemore has had a few more corporate sponsors step up in the last few months, to help out with the big price tag that comes with the new school.
“We have to have a certain amount raised when the school opens,” said Whittemore. Fundraisers are in the process of gathering money for footprint items at the moment, which means the money going toward things such as the gym, or other big parts of the project.
“We have raised just over $100,000,” said Whittemore. Currently the price earmarked for footprint is $61,000. They have also managed to raise $39,000 for non-footprint items.
Donations are not the only way funds are being raised for the school though. A recent fundraiser dinner recently held at The Bistro proved so successful that they may hold another one sometime in the future.
One of the more continuous fundraisers they have going on is called Chase the Ace. Chase the Ace, in other areas, has been known to go on to thousands of dollars in the jackpot that participants have a chance to win. The Chase the Ace game for New Glasgow Academy has already raised $4,600 for the school.
There will also be a fundraiser April 26, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at the New Glasgow Junior High School to raise more money.
“Our goal is $200,000,” said Whittemore “we’re half way there.”
