Ian Thompson, associate publisher of the Halifax Chronicle Herald will present the keynote speech at the Chamber’s annual general meeting May 1st at the Museum of Industry in Stellarton.
Thompson is the former Ottawa representative for the province of Nova Scotia and former deputy minister of the provincial Department of Economic and Rural Development and Tourism. He has served on a number of corporate board, such as Innovacorp and Nova Scotia Business Inc. and is a past Chair of the Halifax Chamber of Commerce.
Jack Kyte, Pictou County Chamber’s Executive Director said Chamber members are excited to hear Thompson’s perspectives on a number of current business and municipal issues.
“He is a former business owner and civil servant so he understands both the private and public sectors in a unique way,” Kyte said. “I am sure his views will take on even more meaning with the recent release of the report of the Ivany Commission on the Nova Scotia Economy and the challenges outlined in the report.”
Kyte said the Chamber itself has been in the process of change to provide greater value to its members given the current state of the economy.
“We are looking forward to a great turnout at the AGM as it is a chance for us to share some of our recent success stories with the business community,” he said.
