Student hopes to find new host family in area
NEW GLASGOW – Navee Sarawan Angoor, a 16-year-old living in New Glasgow on an exchange from Thailand, is looking for a new host family.
Angoor has been living with the Malloy family while Breia Malloy, a North Nova student, studies abroad in Germany on a Nacel Canada scholarship.
“She left New Glasgow in August last year and has been having a wonderful year. (She) is now fluent in German, has made some wonderful new lifelong friends and will be returning back home to New Glasgow in late June,” Kim Monteith, regional coordinator for Nacel Canada, said.
When she returns, the Malloy family won’t have the space to host Angoor.
Nacel Canada, a not-for-profit cultural exchange organization promoting world peace and cultural understand through youth exchanges, is reaching out to New Glasgow families in the hopes that someone would be willing to take him in.
Although there are families willing to host Angoor in Halifax and Dartmouth, New Glasgow is where he wants to be.
Learning the language was a bit of a struggle for Angoor, but he has come to love his school, North Nova Education Centre, and his friends.
“Everything here is good,” he said.
He now looks at New Glasgow as his second home.
Nacel Canada is looking for a loving home for him in the area that would allow him to return to NNEC and go into Grade 11 next school year.
They provide a tax-free monthly stipend of $500 to offset costs. The family hosting him would provide three meals a day and his own bed, and involve him in their day-to-day lives, including sharing in the household responsibilities.
Nacel Canada describes Angoor as “a wonderful, polite and kind young man who does very well at school and has made some good friends in school and the community.”
They see it as an opportunity for a local family to welcome someone from another country into their hearts and homes and make a lifelong bond and an educational opportunity for the entire family.
