North Nova Education Centre looked like a construction site this morning as students gathered to work on a joint project.

Students from around the Chignecto-Central School Board (CCRSB) have come together at North Nova Education Centre today, to participate in "Career Exploration Program Community Build Day".

Students from five different high schools are teaming-up to spend the day building trail head information kiosks for the Cape to Cape trail system.

"This project works on so many positive levels. The Cape to Cape trail is one of the only long-distance footpaths in Nova Scotia, and it is funded, built and managed by community volunteers. We are terrifically happy that the students are able to help us in this way, and grateful to educator Andrew Parsons at NNEC, and CCRSB for including in a student learning activity, a project that will make a real and immediate difference to the community," said Sally O'Neill, Trails Coordinator, Active Pictou County. "These trail head information kiosks will make some of the best trails in Pictou County easier to find and safer to use. We are also happy to have the chance to share our trails with students who might really enjoy using them. It’s a win-win."

Partners in this project include the Chignecto-Central Regional School Board, the Cape to Cape Trail Committee, Active Pictou County and The Pictou County Community Health Board.

The Cape to Cape (C2C) committee has a full roster of organized hikes throughout the season. Interested parties can contact trails@activepictoucounty.ca and be referred to the C2C’s email list. You can also join them on Facebook. Participation with the Cape to Cape trail committee offers a wide variety of activities, from actual trail building and maintenance to organizing and updating the website, leading hikes, fund-raising and grant writing, and of course…exciting adventures in some of the most beautiful and interesting places in the province.
