SYDNEY MINES — The Cape Breton Regional Police are investigating the death of a five-month-old baby boy at a residence here on Sunday.
Police responded to a home on Windsor Street at about noon. The forensic identification unit, major crime and the medical examiner’s office investigator were called to the scene.
Staff Sgt. Ken O’Neill said there was no disturbance reported and that the 911 call police received came from inside the home.
He said at this point, the case isn’t considered a homicide.
“It’s protocol for major crime to get out there and follow up on the investigation,” he said.
An autopsy will be performed in Halifax on Monday morning as part of the investigation. Police have secured the residence.
Police are reaching out to the public for any information on the case. Anyone with information can call police dispatch at 563-5151 or Crime Stoppers at 562-8477.
