The Knights of Columbus New Glasgow Council 1667 and Father Gerald MacKenzie Council 8608, of Pictou, are inviting all men in Pictou County to participate in the annual Respect for Women March. This year’s march will be held on May 25 at 2 p.m. at Glasgow Square on Riverside Parkway.

The main focus of the march is men speaking out about the abuse of women and girls of all ages. Males of all ages should make up the majority of the participants, although women and children are welcome to join in bringing this important issue the attention it deserves.

The Knights of Columbus are hosting the march, but it will remain free of religious messages and is being promoted as a community-wide, multi-cultural and inter-denominational event. The goal is universal: to raise awareness of the need to prevent violence against women and girls.

The fact that these people think that they are respecting women by actively discouraging them from supporting their own rights is disgusting and I am ashamed to live in the same community as them.
