PICTOU – New court dates have been set for two men accused of robbing a woman outside a local Shopper’s Drug Mart in August 2013.
The lawyer for Jayden Piercy, 25, of Nova Scotia’s south shore entered not guilty pleas Monday via video conference on behalf of his client and asked that a trial date be set during another video conference on June 18.
Meanwhile, Piercy’s 31-year-old brother, Justin, asked that his case be adjourned to this same date in June so this new lawyer could have time to review the case.
Justin was remanded into custody until his next court appearance in Pictou provincial court. A few weeks ago, the court was told that Justin couldn't be located and his lawyer, at the time, asked to be removed from the case.
The Piercy brothers are charged with robbery as well as wearing a disguise during the commission of a crime. They have yet to enter pleas on the charges.
The charges stem from an alleged incident in August =when a woman was sprayed in her face with an irritant and had her purse stolen when she was in the parking lot of the Shopper’s Drug Mart on East River Road.
A third co-accused, 21-year-old Rosina Ernst, was expected to have her preliminary hearing in Pictou Provincial Court on Tuesday on a robbery charge in relation to the alleged incident, but because of scheduling conflict, her lawyer has asked that this adjourned for at least a month.
