NEW GLASGOW – Rain, rain stay away is a chant that members of the Pictou County Antique Car Club will be saying regularly this weekend.

The Pictou County Antique Car Club recently made a donation to local charities with funds raised during last year’s Show and Shine. From the left are: Danny MacGillivray, CHAD; Donna Richard, Children's Wish Foundation; Lauchie Chaisson and Eric Boudreau, Pictou County Antique Car Club, Rae Gunn of Early Children's Intervention and Dave Leese, LORDA. Amy and Laura Gunn, children of Rae and Travis Gunn, are in the front row. Submitted

The local club’s 44th annual Show and Shine event will take place Saturday and Sunday at the Scott Weeks Sports Complex in New Glasgow from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day, with all proceeds raised going to local charities.

“Some people get really nostalgic at the Show and Shine because they look at a car and remember their first date or maybe it was a vehicle their father had owned,” said John Boutilier of the local car club. “Maybe it was their first car. There is always a connection to your first car.”

He said the Show and Shine has a little something for everyone. Some people come to see the shiny vehicles, others like the muscle cars and the older people the older vehicles.

Boutilier said if the sun shines down on the sports complex field both days, he expects a few hundred cars for exhibit but if there is chance of showers or rain, about 85 to 100 people will take part in the show.

The latest model cars allowed in the show will be from 1990, but there is no restriction on the oldest vehicles. Car owners have a chance at winning some of the seven major prize categories that include five Best Car in Show categories, People’s Choice and President’s Choice.

Exhibitors will not be charged to enter a car in the show and the admission fee is $3 a person with children 12 and under free.

In addition to the car on display, Boutilier said there will be an auction of parts on Sunday afternoon and 50/50 draws. Last year’s Show and Shine raised $5,000 for local charities, which included CHAD, Lansdowne Outdoor Recreational Development Association, Pictou County Early Intervention, Children’s Wish Foundation, the Aberdeen Hospital, St. Martha’s Hospital and the Pictou County Christmas Fund.
