Beatrice “Honey” Wright, Kimberly Sinclair, Jamie Lynn Walsh and Andrea Perrin.
All four Pictou County women were murdered by an intimate partner – their voices forever silenced.

Pictou County Silent Witness co-chair Donna MacGregor, left, and secretary Bonnie Davidson manned a booth at the Highland Square Mall on Saturday to share information about violence against women.

But a local group hopes their lives can still be a reminder of violence that often happens in relationships.

The Pictou County Chapter of Silent Witness Nova Scotia is celebrating its first birthday and had a booth set up at the Highland Square Mall Saturday to recognize that. On a poster was a name of the women who had died.

Since 1990 more than 80 Nova Scotia women have lost their lives due to violence. For 36 women, their deaths came at the hands of their intimate partners.

The Pictou County Chapter of Silent Witness Nova Scotia with help from the community, is creating free standing, life-size, red wooden silhouettes, each one bearing the name of a Pictou County woman whose life ended as a result of domestic violence. Central Supplies has donated the supplies to make six silhouettes and they will be built by students at North Nova Education Centre and the Nova Scotia Community College.

Donna MacGregor, co-chair for the Pictou County group said they don’t approach families but allow them to come to them out of respect. They hope that by getting students to participate they can help raise the awareness of the violence women often face and help prevent it.

The first one will be of Honey Wright.

“There are different silhouettes and the family can choose which one they want,” MacGregor explained.

The group is now beginning to work on a “Remember Me” Silhouette which they anticipate having ready for the fall of 2014.

Bonnie Davidson, secretary for Pictou County Silent Witness, said the Remember Me project is designed to remind people of the women who have died violently in situations that haven’t been confirmed as being by an intimate partner.
