Kevin Lacey, Atlantic Canada director of the Canadian Taxpayers Federation, will be guest speaker at an upcoming Pictou County Chamber of Commerce luncheon June 19 at Pictou Lodge.
“As part of our efforts to bring quality speakers to engage with the Pictou County community, we are excited to hear what Mr. Lacey has to say,” said Chamber executive director Jack Kyte. “Mr. Lacey has a wealth of private and public sector experience, including time spent in Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s office and as a senior adviser to our own Dr. John Hamm when he was provincial premier.”
The Canadian Taxpayers Federation is Canada’s leading advocacy organization, dedicated to lower taxes, less waste and accountable government. The Atlantic division of the Federation is currently pushing for a balanced budget here in Nova Scotia.
“We believe the business community and our municipalities will see this as a ‘must attend’ opportunity,” Kyte said. “Given recent layoffs announced in the county, we all need to get more involved and knowledgeable about our economy. Tax reform has to be near the top of the list for business and municipalities alike, particularly with the high level of provincial services downloads to our local governments.”
