The YMCA of Pictou County is showing a small surplus for the 2013/14 fiscal year due to an increase in membership, popular afterschool programs and the opening of their new child-care centre.
“We have accomplished this with the hard work of our staff and volunteers who strive to ensure our members have an enjoyable experience,” CEO Dave MacIntyre stated in a release. “We are also very supportive of our community by providing membership assistance where no one gets turned away. In 2013 we subsidized over $250,000 in membership assistance.”
The YMCA offers day care, special events, community partnerships, swim lessons and more than 80 classes each week included with a membership.
“As part of our strategic plan, we are striving to create more partnerships and outreach in our community,” said Bob Bennett, board chair.
