SPRINGHLL – A preliminary hearing on the Town of Springhill’s application to dissolve will take place in the community Wednesday morning.

Preliminary hearing on Springhill dissolution Wednesday

The Nova Scotia Utility and Review Board hearing will determine what studies should be prepared by the dissolution committee to consider the town’s application. The board will also consider requests from individuals and groups seeking formal status at the official public hearing, the date of which should be determined during the preliminary hearing.

In announcing the preliminary hearing, the UARB emphasized the purpose of the meeting is not to hear argument or evidence on the merit of the application. That will take place at the official public meeting.

Anyone wishing to be heard at the June 18th meeting, which will be held at 10:30 a.m. at the Dr. Carson and Marion Murray Community Centre, were to have their written applications in by June 13.  Anyone seeking formal standing was to have the application in by June 11.

The Town of Springhill’s application and supporting documents to date can be found at the Nova Scotia Utility and Review Board’s website:

On that website, the board lists the tentative dates for the official hearing as Dec. 15-16, 2014.
