Maritime Firefighters Conference begins this Sunday

This Sunday, over 600 fire chiefs, deputy chiefs, partners and fire equipment sales representatives will arrive in the county as part of the 100th Anniversary of the Maritime Fire Chiefs Association.

This years conference is be hosting by the Pictou County Firefighters Association and being held at the Pictou County Wellness Centre.  

"In 2009 we hosted a very successful MFCA convention at the NSCC in Stellarton," said Gary MacLaughlin, the conference's chairperson. "The group worked hard to obtain the 100th conference." He noted the Pictou County Firefighters Association has been planning this event for over 2 years. "There will be a 105-booth trade show plus 23 fire trucks on static display in the back parking lot."

  Media Relations chairperson Tom Steele said that the conference and trade show aren't open to the general public but residents are still able be a part of Sunday night's activites.   The annual MFCA Memorial Service will be held at the Pictou County Wellness Centre at 6:45 p.mand is open to the public. This will be preceeded by an Fire Officers March and Antique Fire Truck Parade, which starts at 6 p.m. from the area of Access Nova Scotia on Lawrence Boulevard, to MacGreorn and finally to the Wellness Centre. These trucks will be on display in the Wellness Centre parking lot.

At 10 p.m. on Sunday night, there will be a fireworks display near the Wellness Centre sponsored by FXFireworks.   Business sessions plus guest speakers are schedule for Monday to Wednesday with dinners and entertainment schedule for the evenings.   "It is the goal of the local association to have all delegates and particpants leave Pictou County with a postive experience," said MacLaughlin.
