PICTOU – The Municipality of Pictou County is holding its tax rate.
Council approved the 2014-15 operating budget at their council meeting Monday.
The budget set expenditures at $15,445,896 an increase of 3.9 per cent over last year. The general tax rates remain unchanged at $0.81 per $100 of assessment for residential and $1.82 per $100 assessment for commercial accounts.
"The budget reflects council's priorities for the upcoming fiscal year and allows council to maintain its current levels of service while addressing some areas of concern," said Warden Ron Baillie.
The council made a commitment to increase the resources deployed by the RCMP budget by providing for one new member to the Pictou County District RCMP.
"The council continues to deal with pressures from outside of the municipality including $160,000 in mandatory education," Baille said. "With these pressures council must make some tough decisions and we believe that this budget is fair and helps move the municipality forward."
