A 17-year-old Charlottetown female has been charged with first degree murder after a 45-year-old man was stabbed to death Friday night.
Marc Periard and his dog Dutch, members of the RCMP police dog services, comb the yard of a home on Brows Lane in Charlottetown Saturday after a man was stabbed to death on the premises Friday night. Periard is assisting the Charlottetown Police Services because the department no longer has a police dog service.
Members of the Charlottetown Police Services went door to door on Brows Lane Saturday in hopes of finding some clues in the fatal stabbing. Officers are continuing to conduct interviews with witnesses.
They were being assisted by the RCMP police dog service because the Charlottetown police no longer have a police dog or handler.
Police are being tight-lipped on the investigation except to say a youth was picked up five hours after the stabbing.
Police have confirmed the body of the victim has been sent out of province for testing.
A police officer at the scene could not say if the stabbing occurred inside or outside the house, but there were no apparent signs of blood on the driveway in front of the home. It is located at 182 Brows Lane on the corner with St. Peters Road.
Early Saturday morning yellow police tape ringed the house and property while a city police officer was guarding the scene. He would not answer a reporter’s questions.
When a photographer returned later in the afternoon the police guard and tape were gone, but Periard and his dog had returned. He had come back at the request of city police detectives and he explained that in cases such as this, police leave the scene and then come back to examine it again and that will go on until they are satisfied that no stone has been left unturned.
Earlier in the day when reporters went into the home to try to speak to the occupants no one answered their doors, but a dog was barking in the basement apartment and one reporter said he heard people talking in that apartment.
A police officer at the scene said he does not know when a press statement will be issued on the murder.
