NEW GLASGOW – The Town of New Glasgow is looking at turning Acadia Street School into a multi-purpose building.

Acadia Street School will become vacant when a new Primary to Grade 8 school, New Glasgow Academy, opens this fall. A school surplus committee has recommended that the town keep Acadia Street School and turn it into a multi-use building that can be rented out by community groups while Temperance Street School and Brown School will be put up for sale.

In a separate conversation, council was told that the traffic flow around New Glasgow Academy would not be changing despite rumours among the public.

Town engineer Earl MacKenzie said the buses will pull into the school property a bit more than they have in the past to drop off and pick up students, but there will be no changes to the way vehicles drive on roadways around the school.
