Testing the waters for Race on the River

For the rest of the week you can expect to see paddlers out on the East River in Dragon Boats. They are practicing for the races which will be held Saturday.

Pledge processing for all teams participating will be held Thursday  from  6 p.m. and 8 p.m. at the Scotiabank in New Glasgow.

The opening ceremonies for the Race on the River will be on Friday at 6:45 p.m. featuring entertainment by Ann Holton.

Sobeys Managers are also hosting a food sampling BBQ Friday night during the opening ceremonies with donations to go to the Race on the River.

The races start at 8:30 a.m. sharp on Saturday and continue until about 3 p.m. when there will be a pink carnation ceremony. 

Throughout the day Saturday there will be lots of activities at the Glasgow Square site such as a Kids Event Tent with dragon mask painting sponsored by Sobeys as well as a "bouncy dragon". As well a cake walk put on by the Women Alike Breast Cancer Survivors Society.

Several vendors will be on site selling numerous food items and as well the Race on the River Committee will be selling souvenir items as well.

Entertainment will also be provided Saturday afternoon including: Fleur Mainville and Ray Stewart, Jim Dorie, Rowdy Dow, Jakki Rogue, Paul Tupper, Niki Veniot, Inner Voice and Two Johns – No Waiting.
