Kids hold book sale to help with mother’s medical costs

MERIGOMISH - “Raising money for cancer!”

Emma and Logan Findlay were raising money for their mother, Bonny Webster, and the costs associated with battling her breast cancer during a book sale in their yard on Friday.

Emma Findlay shouted this at passing cars on Shore Road on Friday, trying to get them to stop and buy books that she and her brother were selling.

Emma and Logan were ridding themselves of some of their library in an effort to help their mother tackle the costs associated with battling breast cancer.

By mid-afternoon, they had raised $45.17.

“I must be doing something right,” Bonny Webster said about her kids.

The gesture by her children is only one example of the support she’s received since she was diagnosed with cancer on her 47th birthday in May.

The LBR Gas Bar and Variety store has been collecting donations on her behalf.

Her family also organized a benefit on Aug. 16 at Wranglers in New Glasgow.

“I never thought I meant so much to people,” she said.

She’s had two surgeries so far and will soon be going through chemotherapy. She stressed the importance of yearly mammograms, stating that after finding a small cyst on her left breast, it was the mammogram that found cancer in the right.

Though it was shocking at first, she’s keeping her spirits high, believing she has a future.

“I couldn’t be in the corner, crying. Life marches on.”
