PICTOU – A 26-year-old Stellarton man has pleaded not guilty to possessing illegal drugs and tobacco.

Travis Lee Darnell Patterson entered the not guilty pleas in Pictou provincial court Monday after firing this lawyer because he didn’t have time to meet with him.

Patterson told Provincial Court Judge Del Atwood he wanted to represent himself and elected Supreme Court trial by judge and jury on three charges under the Excise Act that involve possessing unstamped tobacco products. He will appear in Pictou Supreme Court Aug. 28 to set a trial date.

Meanwhile, a trial date has been set for Nov. 24 in Pictou provincial court for three charges involving the possession, production and trafficking of cannabis marijuana.

Atwood cautioned Patterson again after he entered the not guilty pleas on his own that he might want to talk to a lawyer, but accused said he didn't have time to meet with anyone and was comfortable representing himself.
