Employees meet to discuss options after Convergys closes

WESTVILLE - Over 100 people came to a meeting for Convergys employees looking to find out more about the options for business, support and education as their time at the business comes to an end.

Employees at the New Glasgow Convergys were told that the company is closing the location on Sept. 28.

The meeting, hosted by Pictou East MLA Tim Houston, included representatives from Career Connection, Bergengren Credit Union, Pictou County Chamber of Commerce along with Pictou West MLA Karla MacFarlane and Central Nova MP Peter MacKay.

    Convergys was in Alberta. They moved from Alberta because of the labour laws and the minimum wage is higher. They will not come back. They left Edmonton and went to Red Deer, left Red Deer because of management problems and complaints. They went east and now are closing centers there too. No surprise.

    I just returned from vacation in Alberta and I affected by the cutbacks at Michelin Tire. I really hate to say it but if you can relocate to Alberta the jobs, growth and opportunities would astound you. All I could see was how my quality of life would improve by relocating . Its not for everyone but it is an option.
