If all goes as planned, the Bantam 'A Crushers will hold a team scrimmage under the lights this evening - at the outdoor rink behind the North End Rec Centre in New Glasgow. I'm actually jealous - I want to play for this team.
What a novel concept, too - a bunch of kids outside, playing hockey in the cold of a winter night, eshewing the sterile lights of indoor hockey. I wish I had thought of the idea. (Pathetic Nostalgia Alert to follow): I do hope the kids have to scrape the ice themselves, if it's necessary - because that's what real hockey is all about. They might put their skates on in the rec centre, or maybe they'll have to lace 'em up sitting in snowbanks, hands numbing from the chill (they should actually want to do this, just for the experience). Good stuff.

News from Pine Valley:
Kendall had been in a coma since the big tornado some months ago (apparently she just snapped out of it late last week). While comatose, she had a heart transplant. The heart came from her obviously dead brother, who had been shot to death by Zach, Kendall's husband. Zach, meanwhile, had agreed to be a sperm donor so that Kendall's sister, Bianca, could raise a child with her lesbian lover Reese. Can you imagine waking up to all this news? I mean…wow! Reese, by the way, now has strong feelings for Zach but only Erica senses this. Stay tuned.

My chilli - the Super Bowl food contribution from our place this year - usually rocks, if you must ask. I wasn't happy with it though - it turned out a little bland for my taste. I had to dump a bunch of jalapeno stuff in it to get it roilin' and boilin', taste-wise, and even then it could have been better. The hosts, who shall remain nameless to avoid embarrassment, had some zesty chicken wings and this dish made from scratch that had cheese and other things in it, the whole thing covered with a pastry. For reasons I won't go into, I can't remember what this dish was called, but it saved supper.
As you might know, the game itself was very entertaining. For awhile, it seemed like the officials were giving it to the Pittsburgh Steelers - like three years ago against Seattle - but the Cardinals got some calls, too, so it all worked out fairly even. Having said all that, it was a great game, - the second straight classic Super Bowl. Now, it's officially football hangover time - a long three months until the NFL Draft.
