To the editor,
I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate all past and present children, families, employees, board members, community partners and supporters who have been part of the Pictou County Early Intervention Program during the past 16 years. Sept. 22 marked the 16th anniversary of providing early intervention services in Pictou County. We are very proud of this milestone.
Early Intervention is a home based program providing supports and services to young children who have been diagnosed with or are at risk of developmental delay aged birth to school age. Early intervention is a unique family centered program. Services include informal assessment of the child’s strengths and needs, education, support, individual program planning, referrals, toy and book lending and transition to preschool and school support. Pictou County Early Intervention is a non-profit registered charity. Funding is provided partially by the Department of Community Services and through fundraising. There are 35 families currently waiting for service. We are fundraising to serve 11 of 39 families on the caseload.
Over the past 16 years we have witnessed first hand the courage and strength of families as they help their children overcome daily obstacles and challenges. I would like to thank each of them for allowing us to be a part of their journey. I look forward to the future of Pictou County Early Intervention and our continued success. I hope that one day we will be able to reach all families that need this service. Every child deserves the best possible start.
