To the editor,
I want to see everyone who is eligible to vote on Oct. 8 exercising the most important right we have as citizens. If you have moved since the last election or are a first time voter you can go to the Elections Nova Scotia website download the application form in order to be added to the voters list.
Now that the election has been called and if you are not on the voters list you can apply at one of the returning offices in the County: Pictou Centre’s returning officer is Lorne Smith and the office is located at 558 South Frederick St., New Glasgow; the Pictou East returning officer is James Jeffery and the office is located at 5222 Stellarton/ Trafalgar Rd., Eureka; Pictou West’s returning officer is Josephine MacDonald and the office is at 45 Weaver Rd, Pictou.
Or you can wait and apply at your polling station and you will be asked to show ID. The poll clerk will add your name to the list using an Elector Information Form. Be sure to bring appropriate ID. You will be asked to show ID to have your name on the list of voters (if you aren’t already on it). Even if you have your Voter Information Card in hand, it’s always a good idea to bring your proper and current ID to the polling station so there won’t be any confusion or delay.
Valid ID is considered to be documents with name, current civic address and signature such as: driver’s licence, residential lease mortgage or land transfer document, cancelled and signed personalized processed cheque for payment of an account, vehicle registration, and current valid contract.
If you don’t have any of the previous listed forms of ID, any two of the following in combination will suffice. Documents with name and current civic address such as: statement of account such as telephone, power bill or credit card, vehicle insurance policy certificate, blank personalized cheque (voided), proof of subscription to a magazine with a mailing label affixed, statement of RRSP or mutual fund. Combined with the following: health insurance card, Canadian passport, Canadian citizenship card, old age security card, credit card, and automobile club card, library card, and student card, certificate of Indian status card, professional association or membership cards.
Let’s get out and vote. See you on Oct. 8.
PC candidate, Pictou East
