To the editor,
Re: Letter to the editor from Ernest R. MacDonald (Sept. 28).
PC Leader Jamie Baillie recognizes the value of non-profit organizations to communities across Nova Scotia. Under a Progressive Conservative government, non-profit groups erroneously funded through the cabinet slush fund will see their funding protected and transferred to the appropriate department, including all of the organizations listed in Ernest MacDonald’s letter. A Progressive Conservative government would end corporate giveaways, not charitable funding.
I too am a strong supporter of The Ship Hector Foundation, serving as a director on The Hector Quay Society. The Foundation is not dependent on provincial funding. A one time grant of $50,000 was given as a match to the $50,000 the Foundation raised four years ago. Mr. MacDonald’s claim of $75,000 in provincial funding is completely false, it simply doesn’t exist.
I attempted to call Mr. MacDonald to clarify the issues he wrote about, however, the only phone listing I could find did not belong to the man who wrote the letter. I encourage Mr. MacDonald to please call my office (485-8958) if he has any questions in regards to the PC platform.
