To the editor,
The decision by a committee of Pictou County municipal council to spend $60,000 in tax dollars to install a private sewer line to the seven-member Legion building in River John, doesn't pass the "smell test."
Bluntly – it's wrong!
Councillors are elected to be "good stewards" of the publics hard-earned tax dollars and serve the best interests of the municipality as a whole.
For years now – too often – decisions by council have been influenced by an east-west geographic split rather than based on good governance principles.
Little wonder more and more residents are looking more positively at the concept of amalgamation!
A request for investigation by the Department of Municipal Affairs may be in order?
