To the editor,
I am writing to convey my concern regarding the proposed changes to the French Immersion program in Pictou County. The French Immersion Program is a worthwhile program that has seen many graduates, it enhances learning and offers future career options that may not be available otherwise. In a bilingual country, it is our duty to offer students easy access to our second official language. There is no doubt that changes need to be made to the program, however, I question the wisdom of taking it away from the students in Pictou West in its entirety. I was able to convey my concerns about this matter directly to the government in reply to the Speech from the Throne.
Many options have been put forth by concerned parents and teachers. The newly formed Liberal government has promised to inject much-needed money back into the education department after years of cutbacks. It is my wish to see how this extra money benefits the CCRSB before any changes are implemented. It is imperative that we find a way to keep the French Immersion Program an option for the students on the west side of the county.
