Re Rubber ducky tests on sewage woes.

Ron Arnold has a good idea in his letter to The News Dec. 7, however, he would place his ducks in the incorrect location. You see whatever sewage is getting to the multi-million dollar treatment plant is being treated 100 per cent with no contaminated products leaving that plant. The problem, however, is with the pump down by the Pictou ball field, which is not working and therefore not pumping sewage to the treatment plant but rather having raw sewage go directly into Pictou Harbour.

Some years before the treatment plant was even considered. Pictou’s sewer discharge pipes were installed directly into the channel between Pictou Landing and Pictou. With the present pump failing and unable to pump raw sewage to the treatment plant, this is where the raw sewage is going, directly into that channel. Now let’s take those duckies and place them directly in that channel and see where the rising tides will take them. I’ll give you a hint. The channel runs directly in through the fish way under the Pictou Causeway. This flue as Ron calls it is quite deep as I have sailed my 18-foot boat through it at slack tide.
