To the editor,
The recently postal changes have come as quite a surprise to many people, especially because they are so drastic and severe. There are many very vulnerable citizens who will be placed in considerable difficulty when the announced changes are implemented thus some reasonable alternative should be pursued while perhaps recognizing that change may be necessary.
Possible some sort of revised system should be pursued that could address the financial problems while not placing a very large segment of the population in such a difficult situation. For instance maybe a licensing plan might be feasible in some type of fashion, such as that applicable to motor vehicles. In other words, those who require postal services might purchase them on an annual basis by prescribing annually at a fee adjusted for frequency and/or volume.
Granted any plan that might be implemented would unlikely serve all the wishes of everyone but surely some system can be improvised that would not leave the vulnerable in the lurch and at the same time limit the very large financial losses that confront us.
