To the editor,
Re: "Getting better is all you can ask for," published on Jan. 25 in The News.
Mr. Adshade, I find your article very disturbing, not only for the so-called information you have received or gossip, as I would like to refer to it, regarding the East Pictou Junior High Boy's Basketball team. The fact that you would criticize a bunch of teenage boys out there on the courts doing their best most of the time and at the same time getting physical exercise: it truly is in poor taste.
I too am an insider, a parent of one of the boys. I see first-hand how well these boys work together. I see first-hand the superb team spirit they have whether they win or lose. After all that is what it is all about, having fun and playing together as a team.
Now, you can call me a protective parent or whatever you like, but in my opinion your article portrays nothing but negativity towards our children. Did you even think of that? I have to commend their coach, as he is a hard-working man who puts a lot of time and effort into building this team on a volunteer basis. I think he's doing a tremendous job!
This article really has opened my eyes to what The News sports columnists publish. I would think you should stick to reporting facts/scores of a game, not gossip and ridicule. I think you owe this team an apology.
For the record, Mr. Adshade, East Pictou boys have won many games this season. I love the enthusiasm they have going to each practice and each game. Don't ever lose that boys! Go Blue Eagles Go!
