Traitor to Canada should not be given favours

To the editor,
A section of the Criminal Code of Canada states that anyone who serves the interests of an armed force against whom Canada is engaged in hostilities commits an act of high treason; persons who commit treason are by definition, traitors.

That fact seems to have been lost on the courts in Edmonton in dealing with Omar Khadr, who abandoned the country of his birth to serve with the Taliban in ways to claim Canadian lives.

More than 100,000 Canadians, our War Dead, gave their lives in serving Canada, and it is a spit-on-the-grave insult to their young lives lost to see the fawning idolatry and red-carpet treatment being extended to someone who chose to stab Canada in the back.

By definition Khadr is a child soldier. ACCUSED but not charged. Khadr has spent more than eight years, or over a third of his life, under US military detention at the notorious Bagram (Afghanistan) and Guantanamo Bay (Cuba) detention camps. Like the other detainees, the Canadian-born Khadr was for years in a legal black hole, enduring a prison-interrogation regime designed to be outside established international and US law. He was held indefinitely without charge, denied legal representation and access to the courts, and subjected by his US captors to physical and psychological abuse, including outright torture. When do we as Canadians stop the blatant war mongering and Islamophobia, not until the biased media stops telling the people what to think and fear with biased pro war propaganda.

Bang on Mr. Stallard however I predict he will be the darling of the Canadian talk show circuit & will probably have a made for TV movie about his persecution. A pile of taxpayers dollars will likely be deposited in his bank account because Canada didn't stand behind him when those bad Americans kept him in custody.
