To the editor,
I have been watching the media reports against Northern Pulp with great interest. Northern Pulp is not the only polluter in this area.
In memory of Jamie Murphy who was part of a group that began a protest against the ash fall coming from the Trenton generating station, I submit that this contributes to the pollution as well.
Having been raised in this area, leaving, coming back after 20 years, nothing has changed. Come on Peter (and I don't mean MacKay) this is your perfect opportunity to state your cause. After giving up a year-long battle to have my car repaired at $1,700 damage I was only offered $350 for the repair. Thankfully, comprehensive insurance covered the damage with a $200 deductible which I did not recover.
My frustration lies in the fact that at least Northern Pulp employs locally, whereas the generating station is contracting outside the province, which to me, means that we have people coming in who don't know the equipment and thus more power failures. Last winter was hard, but at least the failures were minimal. Who knows what will happen this year with the newbies?
