Rude shock to visitors after leaving restaurant

To the editor,

Just over a week ago my friend and I went into New Glasgow for lunch. We asked the gal at Sobeys to recommend a restaurant and she told us that a new one had opened across the bridge and turn to the right.

We did that and parked right next to the restaurant. When we came out after lunch we noticed a ticket attached to the windshield of the car. The amount was for $5 which I paid by putting the bill in the provided envelope.

This bothered me quite a bit.  No notice or warning, just an immediate bill.

We were visitors in your town.  We live in Central Nova Scotia and probably will not select your town or that restaurant again.  This might not matter to you but a positive feeling about an area is always much better than a negative one.

Hopefully someone will address this issue before the negative travels. It always does, much faster than the positive.

Best regards.

How was the parking offical to know you are from out of town??? I am living in Ontario and would never except to have special services because my plate says I am from away. I think $5.00 parking tickets are a joke anyway. You were not parked where you should be and may have been indangering local folks and other visitors.

I can't believe some one is whining about a $5.00 parking ticket and not coming to that town or restaurant again when it's clearly their own fault, can you just imagine how people feel in Halifax when they get a parking ticket where it's hard to find a parking spot at the hospitals when they're trying to visit sick children and other loved one...I hope they got cheese at that restaurant with their Whine!

    No parking

No one likes to get a parking ticket, but you obviously parked in a no parking zone. It happens to us all, you do that, you get a ticket. I don't get a warning when I park downtown and don't feed the meter. I get a ticket in that situation. It isn't that our town is being rude, our law officials were doing their job. I'm sure the person writing the ticket wasn't aware you were from out of town, and I would think if I parked in a no parking zone in your town, I should too be ticketed for the same reason.

    Are you serious?

So let me get this straight. You came to town for lunch, parked illegally and you are now claiming that you deserve some sort of preferential treatment because you're from out of town. I'm pretty sure parking enforcement doesn't go around and wait for the drivers to come back to their car so that they can ask where they're from, before they decide to give them a ticket or not. Seriously ngnews, there has to be more legit letters to the editors than this one worth printing.
