To the editor,

On June 5 the Blue Mountain and District Volunteer Fire Department held their 19th Annual Fishing Derby on the Garden of Eden Lake.

The derby was a great success with 138 people registered. The biggest trout was caught by Corey Didsbury at 15-7/8 inches. Corey won a weekend for two at the Silver Dart Lodge in Cape Breton. Congrats Corey! Second place went to Brent MacGillivary and third place to Craig Feit. Many nice trout were caught throughout the day.

The Blue Mountain Fire Dept. would like to thank a number of people who made our derby a huge success! First we would like to thank all those who registered.  Your continued support makes the fishing derby one of our main fundraisers for the year. This year we raised in excess of $2,000. Awesome! Thank-you to all the businesses, companies, individuals, etc. who donated the prizes. Your continued generosity is truly appreciated and ensures all participants receive a prize. Thank-you very much!

Also we would like to thank the Frasers Mills Fish Hatchery for once again stocking the Garden of Eden Lake. The many thousands of trout they have put in the lake over the years has made for some great fishing and some big trout.

And finally I would like to send a huge THANK YOU to the dedicated volunteers of the Blue Mountain and District Volunteer Fire Dept for all their hard work, time and energy. Not only for this fundraiser but all year round 24/7. Their dedication to our communities their work ethic and number of hours they put in is truly amazing and is definitely something to be very proud of.

Well done everyone.

Gregg MacDonald

Fire Chief, Blue Mountain & District Volunteer Fire Department
