To the editor,

School’s out for most children around the province this week. For parents interested in keeping their children learning, growing and busy this summer, visiting their local public library and registering kids for the free Summer Reading Program is the thing to do! Reading is fun and libraries all over the province are packed with great books, stories, parties, prizes, and more. Many libraries are participating in the TD National Summer Reading Club, and this year’s theme is Destination Jungle.

Studies show that children who don’t read over the summer experience a backward “summer slide” in their reading skills. Parents can stop the summer slide by encouraging their children to read. Participating in a Summer Reading Program can strengthen a child’s love of reading and make learning fun. Parents can visit their local public library for more details. Happy summer and happy reading!
