To the editor,
Three more soldiers, one of them a woman, have been killed in the American imperialism war in Afghanistan. When the unwinnable war began in October 2001, American war lord George Walker Bush appeared on television and told the American public and the rest of the world that the war in Afghanistan was a war against terrorism and if we did not fight it there we would be fighting it at home. Not only did the American public believe that big lie, many world leaders also believed it, including Canada, and swallowed it hook, line and sinker.
No matter how evil the Taliban may be, there is not a shred of evidence that they have committed an act of terrorism against the U.S.A. or any other country. Over 2,000 Afghan men, women and children have been killed by NATO forces and a considerable number of "suspected militants" have been killed but after almost nine years of "war against terrorism" not a single terrorist has been killed. I have yet to hear a member of the NATO armed forces refer to the Taliban as terrorists.
Following is a breakdown of the number of members of the Canadian Armed Forces who have died while serving in Afghanistan.
By enemy action:
Improvised explosive devices (IEDs) or land mines – 93; rocket-propelled grenades or small arms or mortar fire – 22; suicide bomb attacks – 12; total – 127.
Non-enemy action:
Friendly fire – 6; vehicle accidents – 6; helicopter accidents – 2; accidental falls – 2; accidental gunshots – 2; suicides – 2; unspecified – 3; total – 23.
Overall total – 150.
