To the editor,
I witnessed an action at the fair in Westville on Canada Day which will be sure to change reputations of the ‘carney’ coming to town. We all know the image of criminals bent on stealing our last dollar and having an eye for the town’s young lassies. Such tales are lore now if actions of the young man operating the Tilt-A-Wheel are any indicator.
I observed him helping a severely physically handicap teenager get off the ride. It wasn't the action as much as the genuine concern he had for the individual. The operator not only guided him off the ride but remained with him until an attendant could locate a walker. I could not hear the communication between them but gauging the outburst of laughter from the customer I am sure it was a joyful end to what must have been exhilarating ride.
I expressed my gratitude for his kindness and he seemed genuinely taken aback and simply replied it was part of his job and went back to work. I guess times change and this one is a change for the best.
