To the editor,
A chance traveller’s lunch stop in New Glasgow has left me with a clear goal to return your town for another visit. On a journey from London, Ont., to Summerford, N.L., for a vacation, my husband Peter and I stopped in New Glasgow for lunch on July 3. The Dock’s fish and chips were the best ever, and the service very friendly.
Over three hours later, when we arrived in North Sydney to catch the ferry, I discovered my purse was missing, and could recall hanging it on the back of my chair at The Dock. A call confirmed it had been found and was safe in the care of Dock owner Carmel Margeson.
To shorten a long story, Carmel and kind waiter Erin, on a busy Friday night, spent a great deal of time on our behalf, calling couriers, and finally putting the purse in a box, and on a bus destined for an overnight trip to Sydney where we picked it up early the next morning before boarding our ferry. Carmel even took the time to call to ensure I had received it safely.
“No big deal,” she said, as I tried to tell her how grateful I was. It was a big deal for me, and I will not forget. I look forward to our return trip to offer thanks in person. What a taste of New Glasgow hospitality!
