To the editor,
I would really like to see any assistance at all for helping out the homeless in our communities and elsewhere. Shelters of some sort for staying out of the wet and cold, especially during the winter months. If anyone has any answers to this problem, there would be many ears listening. Whatever the reasons are, homelessness is still out there.
We all have a tendency to cringe when we see someone in this position, and we cross to the other side of the street as fast as we can. But, there must be some answers of assistance and shelters to this problem. And I’ve heard the comments “the system can be abused.” And I agree, but not in all cases. And also isn't there a little of being spoiled in each of us, wanting to have that little extra? And wouldn't you think self-esteem might be brought back into a person’s life when they received some form of human compassion and kindness?
A person can take negative attitudes toward these situations. That's fine, that's their right and I respect that. But, we all can’t smell the roses or be born with a silver spoon. Anything can bring us all down (homeless or the next thing to it): finances, being unemployed, disease, etc. “Be careful what you say, you could be homeless some day.”
Turned backs show negativity, helping hands show creativity. It's fine when you have family to fall back on when the road is rough. What about others who don’t?
Some of you may say that I'm off a bit, but if you needed my shirt for warmth, you would get it without hesitation. And to all the organizations and persons involved in trying to solve the homeless problem – you’re all awesome,
