To the editor,
When I was in Saskatchewan in the early 1990s, one thing that stood out to me was that any town (and there were a lot of them) that had a hometown player in the NHL had a life-size (or bigger) cutout of that player on the outskirts of town. You know, “Home of...” on a big sign.
The picture of Barry Trenholm on the front page of Tuesday's News reminded me of that scene. What a great way for us to promote OUR hockey greatness. Perhaps double the size of those cutouts shown on the roadside around Exit 23, with suitable wording would be a good project for the Hall of Fame or a business or two.
What a great way to show our pride in the accomplishments not only of these great players, but Pictou County as a hotbed of hockey talent. And don't forget the forerunner, Thorburn's Lowell MacDonald.
