To the editor,
The time has come to mutiny. Citizens of the Town of Pictou, are you willing to sit back and watch your beautiful town die a slow death? Are you willing to allow the present mayor and town council to continue to make questionable decisions placing the Ship Hector and Quay in jeopardy? Tourism is the very lifeblood of the town. It brings in tourists from all over the world. The tourists come to view the Hector and related to the Scottish cultural heritage we hold so dear.
That being said, how can we consider the present town administration as anything but incompetent when they announce the closing of the Quay and the Ship Hector at the start of the tourist season? They keep having closed meetings in which the fiction of negotiation with levels of government and solutions are being pursued. Meanwhile tourists leave disgruntled and carry with them a negative experience of our history and heritage.
This, from my point of view, is an example of small-town politics practised by small-minded people. Citizens of Pictou, it is time to call for a vote of non-confidence to let the present administration know that incompetence will not be tolerated.
