To the editor,
This year, it will be even easier for Nova Scotians to get the protection they need against influenza. In 2010-2011, the seasonal flu vaccine will be free for all Nova Scotians. This initiative is a positive step by government to protect the health of Nova Scotians.
Every year in our province, over 2,500 people are admitted to hospital and over 400 deaths occur as a result of flu complications. Immunization is the most effective way to protect yourself, your family, and your community, from the flu.
This year, the flu vaccine will be available in the fall and will protect against three strains of seasonal flu, including H1N1.
Doctors Nova Scotia congratulates government on removing financial barriers for the vaccine and hopes that this program will continue into future flu seasons. The health of Nova Scotians is a priority for both Doctors Nova Scotia and government, and this initiative is one more step towards having a healthier province.
Doctors encourage Nova Scotians to take advantage of this year’s immunizations program and get vaccinated.
