To the editor,
There comes a time when you have to look for leadership and ask are they doing the right thing by selling the Ship Hector to the Group of Seven.
For I am not sure that it is the right move for the Town of Pictou. As for leadership the mayor and councillors have not shown any up until this time. Well over a year ago they knew that the Hector Quay was not going to be opening for this year's tourist season and nothing was said or done until the season was here. Then it was told to the taxpayers of the town of Pictou and the county that the Quay would not open for this year.
At that point the Ship Hector Foundation was told that if the funds were raised by them the Quay would open. Well folks that was done and now the province has matched the funds raised which I was part of. And guess what? Mayor Joe Hawes has said that the Quay will not open so I ask you what kind of leadership is that?
So to the good people of Pictou and the county I would say to you take steps to have the sale stopped. Perhaps look for someone other than your mayor and councillors to take leadership of the Quay so it can open and serve the people of Pictou and the county as a permanent tourist attraction for Pictou as well as the whole of the county. I concur with Lloyd MacKay that the town fathers should resign or rethink their decision of the sale of the Quay.
Wishing you all a good day.
