To the editor,
The following is not intended to reflect on the staff or departments of the Aberdeen Hospital.
Having said that, one recent afternoon at a local grocery outlet a nurse was doing her weekly shopping, bending over the produce counter, squeezing the fruit and reaching into the bulk bread bins (rest assured she had used the hand sanitizer at the store's entrance).
What is wrong with this picture?
The nurse was still in her hospital scrubs topped by an unbuttoned long-sleeved jacket – whatever she had come into contract with during her shift, for example, soiled linens, dressings, body fluids, contaminated instruments, etc., along with the accompanying bacteria, they were now going up one aisle and down another. The sad fact is none of the other shoppers present were aware of the above. 'Buyer beware' took on a whole new meaning!
Please, give some serious thought as to what you are doing when you go directly from work to a public place: help keep the public safe. It isn't enough to put a few drops of hand disinfectant on your hands and blindly go forth.
Thank you for the space in your newspaper.
