To the editor,
It's Christmas Eve and I make my way to our rural post box at the end of the driveway anticipating a card or two from family. Eureka! The box contains four envelopes that appear encouraging upon first glance… turns out to contain two cards from family, some new medical cards from the insurer of our medical plan and an envelope from Nova Scotia Power (an Emera company).
In other words three very welcome items and one that left me puzzled about the lack of good old courtesy and common business sense… why am I receiving a power bill on Christmas Eve?
Talk about a lack of business sense… even the Government of Canada ensures the receipt of Canada Pension/Old Age Security/Supplements prior to Christmas and the former employer (retired now) deposits pensions prior to Christmas which demonstrates the ability to override normal "computer programs." But, "Emera, nee NSP" does not appear to have the same ability, yet I'm sure the employees and executive have already received their "bonus."
Not really a big deal to us as, although we are on a fixed pension income, we have already paid our bills via regular monthly payments and therefore owe this outfit nothing (at this time). Given the pending increases in rates and the general community attitude toward this "Company" one would think they could hire more sensitive Public Relations types than those who would ensure my bill arrived just before Santa landed.
Merry Christmas and happy new year to one and all
