ST. JOHN'S, N.L. - The Transportation Safety Board confirmed today that it has completed the recovery of "significant items" of the wreckage of a downed chopper in the North Atlantic.
An offshore supply vessel assisting with the recovery of the fuselage arrived Wednesday in St. John's with what appeared to be a rotor blade jutting out of a blue tarp.
The Atlantic Osprey used two remotely operated vehicles to recover the wreckage at the crash site, about 65 kilometres southeast of St. John's.
Transportation Safety Board lead investigator Mike Cunningham has said the wreckage was in "hundreds of pieces" along the ocean floor, 178 metres below sea level.
Cunningham is expected to provide an update on the investigation later today.
The 17 victims and one survivor of last week's crash were remembered Wednesday in St. John's at a prayer service at the Roman Catholic Basilica Cathedral of St. John the Baptist.
