NEW GLASGOW - Shiny chrome, spotless paint jobs and cars that bring you back to your younger days.
All of that and more will be on the agenda as car enthusiasts across the province polish up their antique beauties and gear up for the annual Pictou County Antique Car Club's annual show.
Again this year, the show will be held at the Scott Weeks Sports Complex this weekend. More than 300 vehicles from across the Atlantic provinces are expected to be on display, dating as far back as 1912.
"There will be cars there from back in the 20s and 30s, the old Model As," said club member Alan Cunningham. "They'll all be from before 1985, that's our cutoff. After that, you're getting cars that are too new."
A few special modern cars will also be on display, added John Boutilier, president of the local car club.
"We have a special tuner group of cars - the little Volkswagen or Hondas that people have loaded up," Boutilier said. "They're newer vehicles, but we've invited a select group of people to display what they've done to their cars. It's the first time we've done it, so we're looking forward to seeing the reaction."
But the big draws are always the cars of yesteryear. Usually the most popular draws are the muscle cars of the 50s and 60s.
"Because of the age of the baby boomers, that's the display that appeals to them the most, so it's probably the most popular right now," Boutilier said. "Your favourite car is usually the first car you had, the one your father had, maybe the one you owned when you were married. It's usually a personal reason that you like certain cars, but it may just be that you like a classic look and the way it sounds."
Now in its 39th year, the annual show promises to feature a few cars that have never been seen before, he added.
"We'll have a few cars that have never been seen before, so they're always a big attraction as well."
All of the profits from the car show are put back into the community in the form of local charities, including the Aberdeen Hospital, Early Childhood Intervention, CHAD, the Children's Wish Foundation and the Christmas Fund.
There will also be a flea market on site for car parts and cars for sale.
The show will run from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday at the Parkdale field. Cost is $3 for adults, $2 for seniors and kids under 12 admitted free.

We don't need to see all the ricers. We can see those every night by Jessy's Pizza.

That's funny as I do recall newer loaded up cars there last year. What a stupid description. Special Interest would be a better one. As I really dont think it is fair to have invited a select group to display as if a certain person involved in the show was a real enthusiast they would realize that cars are cars and trucks are trucks as none should be excluded because A certain person does not agree or like it. Yes, you do not want just any newer car with walmart stickers on it. But the people that take care and put alot of effort into their cars do it because they have a love for the sport. Antique or otherwise. If they want to show off there car they should have every right. And besides it would be interesting on how these LOADED vehicles are picked. Get over yourself times are changing and so are the cars and the way people view them.

My favorite is the four door white cavalier. It's too fast and too furious for me.

Don't ya just love all the Ricers at jerry's pizza sittin there with the head lights on facing the road.. They are bad a$$! (LOTS OF SARCASIM)
I'll never understand why people think putting a ketchup can for a muffler is going to make a diff in horsepower. When unless its used in combination with an entire after market exhaust and air intake it doesn't do jack other then make you look like an moron.
I always have to laugh when i seem the go over train tracks and the exhaust bounces off the track lol
I think the funniest looking car in town is that Orange and black Hatch back, it sounds awful and is forever putting out nice clouds of black and blue smoke. ..hmmm maybe the burning oil smoke is a mod he did :' lol .. -

The hilarious thing is, EVERYONE makes fun of the guys at losers lane.
What the heck are they even doing? They just drive around in a pack and park places showing off their rust buckets.
