If you're looking for a unique way to surprise your sweetheart this Valentine's Day, you may want to give The NovaTones a call.
Art Bingham, Bob Morse, Wade Smith and Charlie Matheson are performing as The NovaTones, a barbershop quartet who on Valentine's Day will surprise your wife or girlfriend (or husband, if you so desire) with a red rose, a box of chocolates and two romantic songs.
Bingham says it's the perfect way to surprise someone special on the most romantic day of the year. And the group will surprise her anywhere, from her front porch at home to her desk at work.
"It's a way for a husband to tell his wife he loves her but have a little fun at the same time," he says.
While some wives or girlfriends may be embarrassed by such a gesture, Bingham says they're always swept off their feet, regardless. "Some people get flustered, but I honestly don't think anyone really minds all that much," says Bingham, adding that the group will sing the Barbershop standards Heart of my Heart and Let me Call you Sweetheart.
Sometimes their reactions are priceless, confesses Smith. "Some laugh, some cry and some want to kill you," he says. "You never know what you're going to walk into."
So what is it, exactly, about a barbershop quartet that gets people in the mood for romance? Smith says four men, dressed in bowties and carrying long-stemmed roses, singing together in perfect harmony can be irresistible.
"It's a four-part harmony, sung a capella," he says. "What could be better than that?"
Those interested in hiring The NovaTones this Valentine's Day can call Bingham at 752-0263. The cost is $35 and all funds raised will go to support the barbershop group.
