The T Fraser’s Cranes Bantam AA team went to the island this weekend and came back with gold.
The New Glasgow based Bluenose League team began on Friday night with a 12-2 win over Northside, PEI.
Cody Heighten went the distance in the first game, pitching a gem to hold the opposition to just two runs over 7 innings.
Top hitters were Tommy Hayman with a double and single and Joel Maclean with two singles. Bruce Wheadon, Cody Heighton, Lucas Gulliver each made contact for singles.
Players of the game for New Glasgow were Heighton and Lukas Macdonald.
In game two, the Cranes took on Bedeque, PEI in a close game for the early going. That was until New Glasgow exploded in the fourth inning and won the game 14-5.
Cory Baird took the win with Brandon Heighton pitching two strong innings in relief.
Offense came from Cody Heighton, who was just a homerun shy of hitting for the cycle, with a triple, double and single. Luckas MacDonald and Wheadon each cracked three singles. Layne Conway had two singles and Brett Rogers, Alex Halliday and Eric Pelton had one single each. Wheadon and Baird were named players of the game.
Game three saw New Glasgow take on Charlottetown and with another excellent effort, put up an 11-2 win.
Tommy Hayman pitched the win with Brandon Heighton and Conway coming on in relief. Lucas Gulliver stroked a homerun in the win with Hayman adding a triple in his own cause. Top hitters were Eric Pelton with two singles, Hayman with a triple and single, Gulliver with a homerun and triple, Cody Heighton with a triple and single and Conway with a single. Players of the game were Gulliver and Heighton.
In the crossover, semi-final, the Cranes shut out the host team, Summerside.
It was a lop-sided 10-0 win in five innings. Cody Heigthon pitched his second complete game, striking out eight in the process.
Top hitters were Hayman with a double and single, Gulliver with a double and single and Baird with a double.
Halliday, Pelton, Conway, and MacDonald each had a single. Players of the game were Hayman and Conway.
In their final game, New Glasgow faced Bedeque for a second time.
The Cranes got outstanding pitching from Hayman who pitched five and two thirds with Gulliver coming on in relief to close it out.
Top hitters were Baird and Cody Heighton with a double and single each. MacDonald, Conway, Halliday, Joel MacLean and Pelton each had singles. Noah Delorey was named player of the game.
New Glasgow gets back to Bluenose league action this weekend against Truro.
