The Weeks Jr. A Crushers got off to a good start for their three-game week, with a 5-4 victory over the Metro Marauders Thursday evening.

Danny Wicks opened the scoring for the Crushers at 3:54 assisted by Tyler Doyle before Justin Belanger scored for the Marauders at 10:28.

In the second period Metro took a lead with Dylan King scoring unassisted at 1:02.

The Crushers fought back though and within about a three-minute span scored three goals in the middle of the period.

Jordan McInnis scored at 8:44 assisted by Cody Squires and Devan Gunn. Corey Bennett scored at 9:27 assisted by Mitchell Deruelle and Jordan Moore at 9:27 and McInnis scored again at 11:54 assisted by Squires and Gunn.

In the third JP Harvey managed to tie the game again for the Marauders with two goals, but Squires responded with a goal at 9:30 to secure the Crushers win.

Jean-Sebastien Boucher stopped 44 of 48 shots in the win.

While head coach Jason Malone was happy with the outcome and particularly the second period, he said he wasn't happy with the third period at all.

"There were too many breakdowns and our power play was awful," he said.

Those are areas he feels the team will need to improve on tonight as the team travels to Dartmouth to play the Marauders in a return match.

Some bright spots of the game were Cody Squires and Jordan McInnis who both picked up three points and Boucher who was solid in nets.

"He gave us an opportunity to win and that's all you can ask of a starting goaltender," said Malone.

Boucher is expected to get the start again tonight in Dartmouth.

Saturday the team travels to Amherst to play the Ramblers.

The team is currently in a three-way tie for third place in the Bent Division of the Maritime Hockey League with the Maruaders and the Truro Bearcats. The Yarmouth Mariners are only two points ahead in second place.
