TRURO – The Pictou County midget A Crushers took home the gold medal in the Annual KFC Christmas Tournament held in Truro and Debert winning all four of their games. In the championship game held New Years Day, the Crushers defeated the host team, Truro Royal Lepage midget A’s 4-2 to capture the title.
Jacob Pentz scored twice with single tallies by Kirklin Murray and Brandon Livingstone. Murray was awarded game MVP.
Jacob Morash picked up the win in goal.
Earlier in the tournament in round-robin play the team took on the East Hants Penguins in their first game. With only 7.6 seconds left in regulation time, Pentz found the back of the Penguins net to win the game 1-0. Lukas MacDonald earned the shutout and was named game MVP.
The next game had the Crushers facing Truro and winning 4-3. Pentz and Colten Green scored a pair each with game MVP going to Pentz. Morash played a strong game between the pipes.
In their third game, the Crushers defeated the Parrsboro Predators 5-0 securing their spot in the championship game. Pentz lead the team with a pair of goals. Devon O’Connor, Cody Haas and Bailey Campbell scored a goal apiece. MVP honors went to Haas. MacDonald earned his second shutout of the tournament. The Pictou County squad begins play downs this coming weekend.
